Fenerbahce rising star Elif Elmas was closely linked with several European clubs this summer before joining the Turkish league giants.

Club president Aziz Yildirim confirmed that Manchester City made a bid for Elmas and that they were one of 26 clubs to do so.

Yildirim told NTV Spor: “Manchester City and Ajax made concrete offers, in total 26 clubs made bids for Elif Elmas.”

Belgium newspaper HLN also reported that City made an offer for Elmas earlier this summer.

City, Benfica and Club Brugge all made bids for the Macedonian wonder-kid.

The 17-year-old ended up joining Fenerbahce who promised him regular first-team action this season.

The Yellow Canaries were prepared to offer him more playing time than City were he would have been unlikely to progress to the the first-team this season.

Elmas has already featured for the Fenerbahce first team this over the pre-season and is expected to be a member of Aykut Kocaman’s squad.
