3 reasons Arsenal should consider bringing Ozyakup back

Arsenal have been dealt a blow in their pursuit of Besiktas playmaker Oguzhan Ozyakup.

Beşiktaş midfielder Oğuzhan Özyakup has had a terrific season playing a key role in his side winning the league title.

Three-years on since leaving Arsenal in search of regular first team football Özyakup has established himself as a star in the Beşiktaş team and a regular Turkish international call-up almost certain to feature in the European Championships this summer.

Arsenal have shown an interest in re-signing their former youngster as they continue efforts to sign a deep-lying midfielder according to Talksport.

Ozyakup has seen his stock rise from €500,000 – which is what Arsenal sold him for – to €20 million.

So what would Özaykup bring to the table and should Arsenal bring him back to the Emirates?

1. Leadership quality

Beşiktaş were left with a number of issues following the departure of Slaven Bilic over the summer. The most poignant of them being who would be able to fill in for the injured Tolgay Arslan and Veli Kavlak who were ruled out until the turn of the year. Head coach Şenol Güneş decided to put his trust in Özyakup and the former Arsenal man has not disappointed. The 22-year-old has had to play as a central, defensive and attacking midfielder at times this season but has taken to the challenge with open arms and established himself as the leader in this Beşiktaş side. Özyakup has improved defensively averaging 1.5 tackles and 1.9 interceptions per-gamg in all competitions and has strengthened physically. The 23-year-old has also contributed in the final third scoring nine times and providing seven assists.
