Slaven Bilic developed a reputation as a manager that lacked bottle at Beşiktaş. The Black Eagles failed to win a single derby against rivals Galatasaray and Fenerbahçe under his command – they actually failed to register a single goal in the Istanbul derbies this season. There was no doubt that at times Beşiktaş played the best football in the league this season. The Istanbul giants held Arsenal to a goalless draw at the Atatürk Olympic stadium before narrowly losing 1-0 at the Emirates in the Champions League playoff round – the same Arsenal that put four past Süper Lig champions Galatasaray both home and away. Beşiktaş also beat Tottenham in Istanbul and knocked Liverpool out of the Europa League Round of 32. However, when it came to derbies and key games in the title race the Black Eagles fell to pieces in both seasons Bilic was in charge.
