£42.5m Arsenal contract rebel targeted by Turkish champions in end of season move

Arsenal star Mesut Ozil faced an uncertain future at the North London based outfit.

Ozil will have just 12 months remaining on his contract at the end of the season but has yet to make a decision on his future.

The Telegraph did recently report that Fenerbahce are plotting an end of season move for the 28-year-old.

Fenerbahce could however, face competition from reigning league champions Besiktas according to Turkish newspaper Aksam.

The Black Eagles are in a stronger position to sign Ozil considering they are favourites to win the Turkish league title and book a place in the Champions League next season.

The Istanbul giants are keen on strengthening the side with a star name if they do go onto win back to back league titles.

Fenerbahce meanwhile are 4th in the league standings and will need a miracle if they are to catch Besiktas, let alone finish in a top two spot.

Besiktas are currently five points ahead of second placed Basaksehir in the league.

The Yellow Canaries do however, have one key advantage in that Ozil grew up a Fenerbahce fan.

Sabah reported Ozil as saying: “My family are from the Black Sea region of Turkey and I’m a Fenerbahce fan, I would consider playing for them in the future.”

Ozil is a Germany international player but he also an ethnic Turk, bi-lingual in German and Turkish. The 28-year-old is a popular celebrity in Turkey and regularly visits the country.
