£42m Arsenal star linked with Man United move could be headed to Super Lig this summer if Ali Koc wins presidency

Fenerbahce are back in the running for Mesut Ozil following an announcement by Ali Koc that he will run for club presidency.

Over the past two years there have been reports that Koc plans to make Arsenal star Mesut Ozil one of his first signings once he is appointed.

Fenerbahce could however, face competition from Manchester United.

The Sunday Mirror Sport report that Ozil’s representatives have established contact with United over a summer move.

Per the source, the Manchester based giants responded in an ‘encouraging‘ manner.

Sporx meanwhile, report that Ozil is back on Fenerbahce’s agenda should Koc win the election and that efforts are already underway to make the transfer happen.

Ozil travelled to Istanbul last October where entered discussions with the Fenerbahce regarding a future move.

Fenerbahce did not hold talks directly with Ozil a source close to the club revealed to Turkish-football – legally they would not be able to hold one on one talks without Arsenal’s knowledge.

The talks that took place were between intermediaries close to future Fenerbahce presidential candidate Ali Koc.

Ozil has under 12 months remaining on his current contract but has yet to sign a new deal.

The Koc family are one of the most powerful and influential families in Turkey worth billions.

Koc Holdings is one of the only Turkish conglomerates on the Fortune 500 with popular white goods brand Beko (Arcelik) also under their umbrella.

Ali Koc recently revealed that he will run for presidency – which he would be almost certain to win – in 2018.

Koc is expected to make a marquee signing and implement sweeping changes if he is elected.

Ozil is a self-confessed Fenerbahce fan having grown up supporting the club as a kid.

Sabah reported Ozil as saying: “My family are from the Black Sea region of Turkey and I’m a Fenerbahce fan, I would consider playing for them in the future.”

Ozil is a Germany international player but he also an ethnic Turk, bi-lingual in German and Turkish.

The 28-year-old is a popular celebrity in Turkey and regularly visits the country.
