£58m Chelsea transfer boosts Turkish champions hopes of signing Diego Costa Atletico Madrid rule themselves out of race

Diego Costa is edging towards the exit door at Chelsea following the Blues’ signing of Alvaro Morata.

According to the Mirror, the move paves the way for Diego Costa’s exit this summer.

The London based club confirmed the transfer of Morata yesterday for £58 million (Telegraph). Morata arrived in the UK today to undergo a medical.

The transfer means Chelsea have found a replacement for the controversial striker Diego Costa. The Spain international has made no secret of his intention to return to Atletico Madrid this summer.

Costa is expected to leave Stamford Bridge after falling out with manager Antonio Conte.

However, Costa will be unable to play for Atletico Madrid for six-months if he makes the move. The La Liga giants are serving a transfer ban imposed by UEFA.

Besiktas meanwhile have been linked with an unorthodox six-month loan deal for the striker.

The Turkish outlet Fanatik claim that Besiktas want to loan Costa until January. Per the source, Besiktas are in talks with Costa’s agent Jorge Mendes over the short-term loan deal.

However, Atletico Madrid boss Enrique Cerezo has played down talk of Costa’s transfer to Atletico.

“Diego Costa is a great player, he is magnificent,” Cerezo was quoted as saying by the Mirror.

“But at the moment, he is a Chelsea player and you know that we cannot sign him.

“He was in Spain for many years before, he’s had a spell in England, learning English and I imagine he will return to Spain someday on vacation, why wouldn’t he return on vacation?”

“I have not talked to him for a long time, for at least a year, since he left I’ve spoken to him very little.”

Costa racked up eight assists and 22 goals in 42 appearances for Chelsea last term.
