Augsburg midfielder Halil Altintop revealed that he was pleased with earning a point against Bayer Leverkusen.

Bayer Leverkusen were held to a dramatic 2-2 draw against Augsburg when goalkeeper Marwin Hitz scored his first professional goal in the last minute of additional time.

“Even in this game, you could see that we’ve taken a step forward this season. Obviously we’re elated that Marwin [Hitz] rescued us a point in the last minute,” Altintop was quoted as saying on the official Bundesliga website.

Altintop believes his side could have even clinched a winner in the dying seconds.

“In fact, in the final second we even had a chance to score the winner. All in all, though, we’re pleased with the point,” he added.

Altıntop is the identical brother of Hamit Altıntop who currently plays at Bayern Munich.

Halil joined Augsburg from Trabzonspor last season.

The 32-year-old has three goals and six assists in all competitions for Augsburg this season.

The draw saw Augsburg remain in 5th place in the Bundesliga, one place above Bayer.

Augsburg could move into 3rd place next week if they win and Schalke as well as Monchengladback both either draw or lose.
