“We knew that Dortmund were vulnerable, you saw that early on, and that’s what we wanted to take advantage of – but we lacked composure in the first half. Then we took the lead at the perfect time after the break, but it was really something else to hold out for the win playing with 10 men for 30 minutes,” Altıntop told the official Bundesliga website.

Despite going down to 10 men following Christoph Janker being shown the red card, BVB failed to make the most of their man advantage and were made to pay when Raul Bobadilla scored the games only goal.

The win saw Augsburg move into fourth place in the Bundesliga on 33 points after 19 games.

Altıntop is the identical brother of Hamit Altıntop who currently plays at Galatasaray.

Halil joined Augsburg from Trabzonspor last season.

The 32-year-old has three goals and five assists in all competitions for Augsburg this season.
