Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has defended Mesut Özil following criticism from the Manchester United legend Paul Scholes.

Scholes commented on the Özil in an article in the newspaper The Independent. The Gunners Boss responded to Scholes’ comments at a pre-match press conference ahead of the FA Cup clash against Manchester United.

“I think a player like Paul Scholes would have loved to play with Mesut Özil,” Wenger stated.

“Having said that, I believe about Ozil it’s a wrong statement [from Scholes]. He works very hard and he’s a great player.

“He has something to prove and he knows that. We are all in a job where in every single game we have to prove a point.”
