Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger focuses interest on Germany international

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has cooled his interest in Bayer Leverkusen’s Omer Toprak after stating that he is focused on signing Shkodran Mustafi from Valencia.

The Gunners have not given up hope of signing the Germany international defender this summer according to SkySports.

Wenger has stated that he is confident that his side will sign Mustafi the end of the summer transfer window.

“Mustafi? We hope it will be done  He is one of a number of players we are looking at. Negotiations are ongoing,” Wenger was quoted as saying by SkySports.

The north London based side are currently in the midst of an injury crisis in defence following a long-term injury to Per Mertersacker and Gabriel Paulista.

Meanwhile, Wenger also has his eye on Turkish international defender Omer Toprak according to the Daily Star preferring him over a move for Fenerbahce defender Simon Kjaer – who the Gunners have also been linked with.

Toprak is available for less than Mustafi and has years of Bundesliga and Champions League experience behind him.
