Arsenal are close to securing a contract extension for their star playmaker Mesut Ozil.

The daily tabloid newspaper Mirror has reported that the Gunners are confident of extending the 27-year-old’s contract. Ozil has two years remaining on his current deal with Arsenal.

Arsene Wenger recently stated that the North London based club are in no hurry to extend Mesut Ozil’s contract.

Eyebrows have been raised by Gunners fans with their two stars, Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez’s going into the final two years of their deals.

“These two players have two years to go on their contracts at the end of the season,” Wenger was quoted as saying by SkySports.

“So that is why we are not in a hurry. The players are very keen to stay and we are talking.”

Ozil is Arsenal’s most expensive signing however, following a disappointing end to the season Ozil is seeking assurances that the squad will be strengthened in the summer.

The 27-year-old has provided the highest number of assists in the Premier League this season (19).

Ozil has created the most chances in the league (122) but Arsenal have the lowest goal record in the top four.
