Arsenal 'did not get anything from Ozil' against Dynamo Zagreb says Ian Wright

Mesut Ozil

Arsenal suffered an embarrassing 2-1 defeat against Dynamo Zagreb in their opening Champions League group stage game on Wednesday 16 September.

Former Arsenal striker and football pundit Ian Wright was critical of the team in general but underlined that he expected Mesut Özil to give the side more.

Wright stated that despite being a big fan of the World Cup winner he could not defend his performance against Zagreb.

Speaking on BT Sport after the game Wright said: “You need Özil in a game like this you need Özil to put in a better performance we did not get anything from Özil tonight and I’m a big fan.”

Özil had a goal disallowed in the game but was criticised for not working hard enough or tracking back after losing the ball. The 26-year-old was dispossessed three times during the game but failed to make a single tackle, interception or block.

The 26-year-old also had an uncharacteristically poor passing game only completing 77.8 percent of his passes on the night.

Özil will be hoping to put the defeat behind him as Arsenal prepare for the Premier League clash against reigning champions Chelsea on the weekend.
