Arsenal legend admits West Ham star Dimitri Payet has been better than Arsenal's Mesut Ozil

The former Arsenal striker Ian Wright has stated that he has been underwhelmed by Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez this season.

The football pundit admitted that the Germany international has been outshone by West Ham United’s Dimitri Payet this season.

“I fancied Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil to be having the sort of season Riyad Mahrez, Jamie Vardy and Dimitri Payet have enjoyed,” Wright told the Sun newspaper.

“I certainly didn’t envisage them turning in some of the pitiful performances we’ve seen.”

Payet has impressed in his debut season for West Ham. The 28-year-old has scored seven goals and provided six assists in the Premier League since joining from Marseille.

The France international joined West Ham on a five-year deal for an undisclosed eight-figure sum from Marseille in the summer.

Ozil has created a total of chances this season (115) and has 18 assists to his name. The Germany international is just two assists off matching the Premier League record of 20 set by Thierry Henry.

Arsenal take on Watford FC in the FA Cup this weekend then travel to Spain to take on Barcelona at the Camp Nou next week.
