Arsenal legend Ian Wright accuses Mesut Ozil of faking injury prior to Chelsea clash

Former Arsenal striker Ian Wright has taken aim at Germany international playmaker Mesut Ozil once again.

Ozil was sidelined for the Gunners 3-1 win over FC Koln in the Europa League last week and missed Arsenal’s 0-0 draw with Chelsea in the Premier League due to injury.

Arsene Wenger confirmed that the World Cup winner was carrying a slight problem. Ozil has since returned to first-team training and is expected to feature on Monday.

However, Wright has accused Ozil of fabricating an injury prior to Arsenal’s clash with Chelsea. The former England international believes Ozil found out Wenger was going to field Iwobi in his place and decided to withdraw himself from the squad.

“Ozil all of a sudden has this muscle injury that has come out of nowhere,” Wright told BBC Radio 5 Live.

“He didn’t play against Cologne. Did he get it in training? I think he got wind that Wenger was going to play Iwobi and Welbeck and all of a sudden got this injury.”

Arsenal will be hoping to record back-to-back victories when they take on West Brom in the Premier League on Monday night. West Brom come into the game without a win in their last four games.

Ozil is yet to register a goal or assist for Arsenal this season.
