Arsenal & Liverpool on alert as star midfielder rejects new contract

Ilkay Gundogan

Arsenal and Liverpool’s chances of signing Ilkay Gundogan have received a boost after the 25-year-old snubbed contract extension at Dortmund.

The Express newspaper claims that Gundogan turned down a new offer  from the Bundesliga giants ‘after deliberating on his future.’

Gundogan’s current contract with Borussia Dortmund expires in June next year. The 25-year-old came close to leaving the Bundesliga giants last summer but instead signed a one-year extension.

German newspaper Bild claim Dortmund will opt to sell Gundogan this summer if he doesn’t put pen-to-paper on a new deal.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is ‘keen’ to sign Gundogan according to the Daily Star while Manchester City are also closely linked with the 25-year-old.

Spanish sport claim that Gundogan has a preference to join Man City as he wants to work alongside Pep Guardiola next season.

The Germany international has six assists and three goals in 32 appearances for Dortmund this season. Gundogan career began at Nuremberg before moving to Dortmund for £4m in 2011.
