Arsenal make last-ditch attempt to extend in-demand star’s contract –  Manchester United & Barcelona both interested

Arsenal have not given up hopes of extending Mesus Ozil’s contract before the transfer window opens in January.

The Germany international could be on his way out of the north London-based club after failing to pen a new deal. Ozil has under six months left on his contract and could end up leaving the club for free next summer.

However, Arsenal still believe they can tie the 29-year-old down to a long-term contract.

According to the Daily Mail, the Gunners will match Ozil’s £300,000-per-week demands. Per the source Arsenal have already had a £235,000-per-week offer turned down by the former Real Madrid star.

The latest contract offer – if signed – will make Ozil Arsenal’s highest earner in the club’s history.

The report goes onto state that both Barcelona and Manchester United have expressed an interested in Ozil. The star playmaker will be free to discuss terms with European clubs from January 1 onwards unless a new deal is agreed.
