Arsenal missed 'big players' like Mesut Ozil says Wenger

3 Turkish players Wenger should consider as part of £100m Arsenal overhaul

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger underlined that one of the main factors behind his side struggling in the early stages of the season was down to injury problems.

“What people forgot is that we had big players out for four months this season. Six or seven players from the squad completely out. So that made a big difference,” Wenger told the official Arsenal website.

Mesut Ozil reveals he has a sixth sense

Wenger stated that he was without key players such as Mesut Özil, Olivier Giroud and Koscielny for months.

“We have a better balance in the team and some players have made it like Coquelin, who contributes to the balance of the team. Hector Bellerin as well has come into the team. And big players like Koscielny, like Ozil, like Giroud have been out four months in the season – four months the three together!” he added.

Özil spent three months on the sidelines after picking up a knee injury against Chelsea in October.

The Gunners have been performing better since the return of stars like Özil and Giroud.

The World Cup winner has been involved in eight goals in his last nine games for the Gunners.

Arsenal have one 16 out of their last 18 games in all competitions and are on an eight game win streak in the Premier League.

The North London based club are currently second in the league, seven points behind league leaders Chelsea.
