Arsenal need more players at Mesut Ozil’s level in order to compete with Barcelona according to the former Charlie Nicholas.

The SkySports pundit stated that the quality of players in Arsenal’s squad – aside from Aleixis Sanchez and Ozil – is dwarfed by Barcelona’s.

“When Ozil got the ball, he wanted to make things happen and Alexis Sanchez the same,” Charlie Nicholas told SkySports.

“Unfortunately when you look at the quality Arsenal have on the ball to what Barcelona have, that’s why you have to spend £30m on Sanchez and £40m on Ozil. That’s where the big gap is.”

Ozil put in a disappointing display during Arsenal’s 2-0 defeat at the hands of Barcelona. The 27-year-old received a rating of 6.26 from WhoScored for his performance on the night.

The Gunners ended up losing to Barcelona by a two goal margin with both goals coming from Lionel Messi.

Arsenal will have to beat Barcelona at the Camp Nou by two goals or more to stand any chance of making it to the next round.

The Gunners are take on Manchester United in the Premier League this weekend. Arsenal are joint second in the League, two points behind leaders Leicester City.
