Arsenal star complains about being ‘singled out

Arsenal star playmaker Mesut Ozil has stated that he believes he is being “singled out” for criticism when the Gunners form slumps.

The claim has been echoed by his agent Dr Erkut Sogut, last month who claimed that Ozil has been made a “scapegoat” for Arsenal’s struggle.

The 28-year-old has failed to match his form from last season and hasn’t scored a goal since December.

“People know what I have achieved. That I am a World Cup winner, played for Real Madrid, set up 20 goals last season [in all competitions],” Ozil told Sport Bild.

“When the team’s on a bad run, somebody needs to be singled out, sadly most of the time it’s me,” Ozil said, adding that he’s become tougher over the years.”

Ozil racked up an impressive 19 assists in the Premier League last season. However, he has managed just five this term.

The 28-year-old’s contract with Arsenal expires next summer. Ozil missed Arsenal’s defeat to West Brom a fortnight ago due to a hamstring injury.

Arsenal have won just one of their last five games in the Premier League. The Gunners host Manchester City at the Emirates this weekend.
