Arsenal’s star playmaker Mesut Ozil could miss the opening weeks of the Premier League according to the Mirror.

The report states that the Gunner’s boss Arsene Wenger has given the 27-year-old an extended break following his efforts in Euro 2016. The report goes onto state that both Olivier Giroud and Laurent Koscielny have also been given leave.

The absentees could however cause an issue for Arsenal following injuries to Danny Welbeck and Alexis Sanchez. Should Wenger not sign a new striker over the summer, the North London based club will only be able to call upon Theo Wallcott in attack.

Ozil was voted voted as Germany’s ‘player of the tournament’ for Euro 2016 on the German FA’s official website. The 27-year-old beat fellow star performers Toni Kroos and Jerome Boateng to clinch pole position.

The Arsenal playmaker scored one goal and provided one assist during Germany’s run to the semi finals. The Arsenal playmaker also boasted a pass accuracy of 91% and created 48 chances for his team-mates throughout the tournament.

Ozil finished last season as the leading assist provider in the Premier League (19) and was name Arsenal player of the season.
