Mesut Özil has stated that he regrets missing out on the chance to take a selfie with Germany’s Chancellor Angela Merkel after the the 2014 World Cup.
Merkel visited the Germany dressing room after their 2-1 victory over Argentina in the World Cup final.
Özil expressed his disappointment at missing out on the opportunity but is determined to make up it next summer at Euro 2016 in France.
“During the celebrations I completely forgot and now I regret it. Hopefully I have another opportunity to do it someday,” Özil is quoted as saying in the Spanish newspaper Marca.
“If we win, I’ll wait for Mrs Merkel at the dressing room door.”

Özil ended the season on a high but missed three months from October to the turn of the year due to a knee injury he sustained during a 2-0 defeat to Chelsea.
The Arsenal star ended up winning two FA Cup trophies and lifting the World Cup in Brazil within the space of a year.
Özil will enjoy a short summer break after the international games before returning to North London for pre-season training.
