Mesut Ozil has stated that Arsenal will need to be stronger next season in order to compete with the competition.

Arsenal endured a disappointing season after finishing ten points behind the Premier League winners Leicester City.

The 27-year-old playmaker has urged the Gunners to strengthen the squad over the summer in order to make Arsenal a ‘better’ side.

“We have a good team, a strong team with good players and strong characters, and I know as well other teams will prepare themselves for the new season with new transfers and will be stronger than last season,” Ozil was quoted as saying by the National.

“We will also be stronger with new players coming in and that would just make us much better than now. This is a decision that needs to be taken by the responsible people inside the club, not by me, so we will wait and see what will happen.”

Arsenal are currently involved in contract negotiations with Ozil however, the Germany international is reluctant to commit his future to the point ahead of Euro 2016.

Ozil assisted 19 goals in the league this season, just one short of equalling the Premier League record of 20 set by Arsenal legend Thierry Henry.

The 27-year-old has been included in the Germany national team squad which will travel to France this summer.
