Arsenal star Ozil 'proud' to receive Public Award from the German Football Ambassador project

Mesut Özil revealed that he was proud to receive the Public Award from the German Football Ambassador project.

“It means a lot to me, because it has been voted for by the fans. I’m proud to receive it,” Özil told DW.

The World Cup winner finished the season with nine assists and five goal in 33 appearances for Arsenal in all competitions.

Jurgen Klinsmann, coach of the United States international side, and ex-Aston Villa player Thomas Hitzelsperger, also won awards as German Football Ambassadors at the event.

Özil won the award through an international voting process in which more than 32,000 votes were cast for 11 nominees.

The 26-year-old has won two FA Cups, the World Cup and numerous personal awards over the last year.

The Arsenal star recently lifted the FA Cup for the second time following the 4-0 win over Aston Villa at Wembley in the final.

Özil has won two Vitality Arsenal Player of the Month and a PFA Fans Player of the Month award.

The World Cup winner finished the season with nine assists and five goal in 33 appearances for Arsenal in all competitions.
