Arsenal star Ozil thanks Fenerbahce for transfer offer

Arsenal star Mesut Özil has thanked Fenerbahçe for the interest they have shown in him according to the Sabah.

The Turkish newspaper claim that Fenerbahçe made an enquiry for Özil.

“The offer from Fenerbahçe was an honour but I want to continue in England for now,” he said.

Özil also told the newspaper that he has always been a Fenerbahçe fan. The 26-year-old was born in Germany but his family are of Turkish origin and like many immigrant families in Europe he grew up supporting a team from the Süper Lig.

The World Cup winner’s family have roots in the Devrek region of the Zonguldak province in Turkey. The western Black Sea province down of Derek named a street in honour of the Arsenal star following his last visit to the area.

Fenerbahçe have had a busy summer already completing the signings of two Manchester United players in Nani and Robin van Persie as well as Lille centre-back Simon Kjaer, Fernandao, Josef De Souza, Şener Özbayraklı, Fernandao, Ba and Fabiano.
