Arsenal team news: £42.5m star set to return, Spanish international out against Man City

Arsenal star Mesut Ozil is expected to return to the team going into the Premier League clash against Manchester City over the weekend.

Ozil has struggled for playing time recently and was dropped from the match day squad against West Brom at the last minute after picking up a hamstring injury.

The 28-year-old did however, feature for Germany against Azerbaijan during the international break.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger feels that Ozil will be ready for the City clash and that he has been training hard.

“He is in contention to start again,” Wenger was quoted as saying by the official Arsenal website.

“He played 20 minutes against Azerbaijan. He has worked very hard this week.”

The Germany international of Turkish origin has come under fire from sections of the press and media after a dip in form.

Ozil joined the Gunners from Real Madrid on a record £42.5 million transfer fee (Guardian) in 2013 but will have just 12 months remaining on his contract at the end of the season.

The Arsenal ace has yet to sign a new deal.

In other Arsenal team news Spanish international Santi Cazorla has been ruled out of the City clash.

Wenger revealed that Cazorla will not play another game this season.

“Unfortunately no [update on Cazorla], I think the season is over for him,” said Wenger ahead of Sunday’s home game with City.

Star goalkeeper Petr Cech will also be out against the Citizens.

“We have lost Petr Cech at West Brom – he will not be fit for Sunday. I think he could miss Sunday, Wednesday and maybe available again after,” he added.

City meanwhile will definitely be without Germany international of Turkish origin Ilkay Gundogan who is injured.
