Arsenal want keeper to stay despite Turkish champions interest

Tottenham v Arsenal

Arsenal want to keep hold of second-choice goalkeeper David Ospina despite interest from Besiktas.

Black Eagles president Fikret Orman revealed in his press conference today: “We want Ospina but they [Arsenal] won’t let him go, he has a contract with the club it is not in our hands.”

The Istanbul giants have been closely linked with Ospina for over a season and Arsenal reportedly want £3 million for their number two in goal – according to Futbol Arena.

Besiktas sporting director Gokhan Keskin also confirmed last month that they are keen on Ospina.

“Nothing has been agreed on yet but we are targeting Ospina,” Keskin told Turkish radio station Radyospor.

Besiktas fans even ook to Twitter to start a trend with a pretty explanatory hashtag, #BeşiktaşFansWantOspina.

The Turkish champions biggest weakness last season was in defence and in goal. Besiktas booked a place in the Champions League next season and have made strengthening the defensive line and goalkeeper a priority.

The Eagles current first team keeper Tolga Zengin made critical mistakes in the Europa League for the past two seasons.

Besiktas did sign Fabri from Deportivo but there are concerns over his fitness or if he is even ready for the new season considering he spent the last league campaign out injured.
