Arsenal 'will not do anything with Mesut Ozil in the team' says former Man Utd midfielder

Arsenal team news

Former Manchester United midfielder Johnny Giles slammed Arsenal star Mesut Özil’s recent performances ahead of today’s clash between the two sides.

Giles described Özil’s performance during the 3-2 defeat to Olympiakos in the UEFA Champions League as being ‘disgraceful’.

“It was an absolutely disgraceful display,” Giles told Newstalk’s Off the Ball show.

The former United player went onto state that in his opinion Arsenal will not be able to succeed and win trophies with the World Cup winner in the side.

“He was totally dishonest in the way he played. Instead of making a genuine effort to win the ball back, he was giving silly free-kicks away. That’s always the sign of a player who doesn’t want to make a real effort,” he added.

“He hasn’t done anything for Arsenal at all. Arsenal won’t do anything if he’s in the team.”

Özil has come under fire from multiple pundits following the North London based sides recent defeat against the Greek giants.

The Arsenal star does however, have three assists in all competitions this season and has created the highest number of chances in the Premier League (29).

The 26-year-old joined Arsenal on a record breaking £42.5 million transfer from Spanish giants Real Madrid back in 2013.

The World Cup winner is expected to start for the Gunners against United at the Emirates today.
