Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Mesut Ozil will return to first team football in early January.

Wenger spoke with reporters at a pre-match press conference ahead of his sides clash against QPR on Boxing Day.

“I believe with injuries back we will have much stronger squad and 2015 can be very exciting if we get injured players back and have a good run,” Wenger stated.

“To finish in the top four is always the minimum required but we have Champions League, FA Cup and the Premier League where we want to come back to a stronger position and I think we will.

“Ozil will be back at the beginning of January. His rehab has gone well but it took time. He works very hard. He is very focused. Fitness-wise, he is there.”

Ozil has not featured for the Arsenal since damaging his knee ligaments during a 2-0 defeat to Chelsea in October.

The Arsenal playmaker has made two assists and scored one goal in nine appearances for the North-London based club this season.
