Aston Villa are in talks with Fenerbahce’s midfielder Raul Meireles with the view to sign him on a free transfer.
The Portugal international’s contract with the Yellow Canaries expires at the end of the season and Fenerbahce have confirmed that they will not be offering Meireles a new deal.
Turkish-Football sources can confirm that Meireles has held talks with Villa and that the Portugal international is keen on a return to England.
The 32-year-old currently earns €2 million per-season – not including bonuses. Meireles has been plagued with injury problems this season but has still managed to make 18 appearances in all competitions for the Yellow Canaries.
Meireles has experience both playing in Portugal and England having starred for Porto, Liverpool and Chelsea.
The experienced midfielder has lifted the Portuguese league title four times with Porto, once with Fenerbahce and also won the Champions League with Chelsea.
