Atletico Madrid have held talks with Ilkay Gündoğan’s agent regarding a Summer swoop for the 24-year-old according to the Spanish website Vozpopuli.
The report states that Arda Turan – who is a close friend of Gündoğan – is involved in negotiations and that Atleti have stepped up efforts to sign the German international. Diego Simeone is preparing to re-build the Madrid based sides midfield as they look to push for silverware next season.
The report goes onto state that Atletico Madrid have a good relations with Dortmund which could put the La Liga at an advantage. However, Atleti face stiff competition from their fellow La Liga side Barcelona who are in talks with the Dortmund star.
Gündoğan has passed a medical with Barcelona according to Mundo Deportivo. The Catalan giants were reported to be wary of the 24-year-old’s current medical condition after a long spell on the sidelines due to a back injury. Barcelona wanted to determine the players fitness before launching a bid to secure his services.
