Atletico Madrid set to rival Arsenal with €20m bid for free-kick maestro

Atletico Madrid have their sights set on signing Bayer Leverkusen star Hakan Calhanoglu according to Turkish sports newspaper AMK.

Per the source, Atleti are keen on the Turkish international attacking midfielder and are prepared to offer €20 million for his services.

In a recent interview with the BILD, Calhanoglu could not rule out leaving Bayer but also said that should he stay he is fully committed to the team.

When asked if he will stay at Bayer Leverkusen, Calhanoglu responded by saying: “You never know in football what will happen.” 

Calhanoglu does however, believe he will stay at the club over the summer and that the current crop of players have a lot of potential.

“But this season I will stay. I will now aim to take the next step forward and be successful at this youthful team that has a lot of potential.”

The 22-year-old has revealed in the past that he wants to play in England or Spain in the future and Atleti would be able to offer him Champions League football as well as a title fight.

Atleti could however, face competition from Arsenal and Manchester United according to TalkSport.

Bayer reportedly want to cash in on Calhanoglu after three-successful seasons in the Bundesliga but considering he has another three-seasons left on his contract the German giants will only accept a bid that matches their valuation.

Per the source, Leverkusen want to cash in on the 22-year-old following three impressive seasons in the Bundesliga.

Calhanoglu has gone on to score 11 direct set-piece goals in the Bundesliga alone establshing himself as one of the most feared free kick specialists in European football.
