Barcelona star: Man City wonder-kid is an ‘example to us all’

Barcelona star Arda Turan has praised Manchester City wonder-kid Enes Unal describing him as an ‘example to us all’.

Turan revealed that he has been impressed with the manner in which Unal has settled into life outside Turkey despite his young age.

“I have been so impressed with Enes, he is an example to us all, even to me,” Turan told Fanatik in a recent interview.

“The way he approaches life, his lifestyle, the mannerisms, the fact he has took it upon himself to learn the language of the country he plays in, his understanding of the media and social media all deserve praise.

“He is a huge talent and could end up reaching the highest level.

“We need the up and coming generation to take him as a role model.”

Unal was a rising star before City snapped him up from Bursaspor for £2 million in 2015.

The 19-year-old could easily have stayed in Turkey and most young talents do stay put.

The problem is young players are paid more in Turkey than they would get in the major European leagues and receive the kind of media attention they just would not get abroad.

Remaining in Turkey is a safe choice but it has hindered the development of many young talents. There is little incentive to try and improve if you have been continuously told you are already the best and treated like royalty.

Unal took the plunge and moved abroad. The Turkish international star already has 14 goals in all competitions for on loan side FC Twente.

The 19-year-old is currently the highest scoring Turkish international player in Eredivisie history with 13 league goals.

Unal has been called up to the Turkish national team by Fatih Terim ahead of the World Cup qualification clash against Finland.
