Barcelona star Arda Turan remembers Turkish rock star Baris Manco on 17th death anniversary

Barcelona star Arda Turan joined in the social media trend sweeping Turkey remembering rock star Barış Manço who passed away 17 years ago today.

Manço was one of the pioneers in the Anatolian rock genre and composed 200 songs which have been translated into several languages including English, French, Japanese, Greek, Italian, Bulgarian, Romanian, Persian, Hebrew, Urdu, Arabic, and German.

Turan shared a picture of Manço with his beloved guitar on his official Twitter account and tweeted that he will be missed and respected.

The Anatolian rock genre he helped create is a fusion of Turkish folk and rock music that emerged during the 1960’s and remains popular today with some of the countries most popular music stars including Haluk Levent, Şebnem Ferah and Teoman.

Manço was also a popular television personality and one of the most popular public figures in Turkey with his show 7’den 77’ye (“From 7 to 77”) which saw documented him travelling the world.
