Barcelona want £20m Arsenal target to stay, says sporting director

Barcelona Arda Turan

Barcelona sporting director Robert Fernandez has denied claims that Arda Turan will be sold over the summer transfer window.

Fernandez believes that Turan needs to be given time considering he missed the first half of the season due to the FIFA transfer ban.

The sporting director stated that he hopes Turan will return to the kind of form he showed he was capable of at Atelti.

Speaking at Andre Gomes’ signing ceremony Fernandez told reporters: “The situation with Arda Turan has not changed.

“After a difficult year with all the FIFA trouble, we are hoping for the Arda of Atletico next season.”

Turan has been linked with seven clubs over the past week following reports from Spain that the club must raise money for the transfer of a new striker.

The Sun report that Chelsea and Arsenal are among the clubs interested and that Barca would be willing to accept £20 million.

Fernandez has however, denied these claims and revealed that he is actually happy with Turan.

“I’m not going to talk about things that may happen later, today is Andre’s day,” he added.

“We are happy with this player, we have three very good strikers and the transfer window lasts until August 31.

“I’m not going to talk about this anymore.”

Turan’s agent Ahmet Bulut has also underlined that Turan is happy and wants to fight for his place in the team.

“The interest is normal but the rumours saying he is leaving Barcelona are false, he is happy at the club,” Turan’s agent, Ahmet Bulut told Turkish-football.com [via Emre Sarigul who spoke to the Guardian].
