Barcelona presidential candidate Josep Maria Bartomeu has urged the Barcelona board to authorise a bid for Atletico Madrid winger Arda Turan.
“I invite the interim committee to sign the player,” he was quoted as saying by Marca.
Radio Cadena SER reported that the interim club board had ruled out making an offer for Turan until the the presidential elections on 18 July.
Bartomeu however, believes the board should make an exception and complete the transfer before the elections.
“He’s a good player, with great quality and perfectly matches what Luis Enrique is wanting this coming season, which is why I, as a pre-candidate, urge the interim committee to take the necessary steps to sign the player. When all parties are in agreement, and above all the manager, that the player is the one we need, the thing to do is to bring him in under the best conditions possible,” he added.
Özgür Sancar of Madrid-based daily AS does however, believe Turan would prefer a move to Premier League champions Chelsea instead.
The Turkish journalist reported that Turan is holding out for a move to Chelsea and that he does not want to wait until the Barcelona elections on 18 July to seal his fate.
Turan’st Ahmet Bulut meanwhile underlined that his client wants to play in the Premier League next season.
“He intends to leave Spain this summer. It is his will to go out to play in the Premiership, that is where he would like to continue his career at this time,” Bulut told AS.
Chelsea and Manchester United have been closely linked with the Turkish international who is expected to join his new club within the next few days.
