Başakşehir have become Atletico Madrid’s Turkish partner according to club president Göksel Gümüşdağ.
“We will be Atletico Madrid’s partner in Turkey, an academy is being setup in Turkey and we will receive significant investment in coaching and facilities that will benefit both clubs long term,” Gümüşdağ told AS.
Gümüşdağ also revealed that Atleti will send 10 coaches to Turkey and that there will be an exchange of players once the academy is completed.
“Atletico will send 10 coaches over to Istanbul and each year there will be an exchange of players, we expect 10 Atletico players to come here for training,” he added.
“They will train in football but also enjoy a personal and cultural education, gaining experience of playing abroad from a young age to build stronger characters.”
The project will be the first of its kind in Turkey and the La Liga champions first foray into the Turkish market.
Atleti have become very popular in Turkey over the last few years following the signing of Arda Turan.
