Former Beşiktaş player Bebe revealed that he learned a lot from Manchester United legend Alex Ferguson but admitted that he thought the Premier League giants €9 million bid was a joke.

“I had a contract with a termination clause of nine million euros and within two days there was a team that wanted to pay it. And I went to Manchester. I thought they were joking,” Bebe told Marca.

“I learned a lot with Ferguson. What went wrong? Well, I was alone. I needed more experience to deal with that. In Manchester I was a child and was alone. I’ve grown and I am a better person, very different.”

United signed Bebe on an €9 million deal from Guimarães in 2010 but only made seven appearances in four seasons for the Red Devils.

Bebe joined the Black Eagles on loan from United in 2011 but only made four appearances for the Turkish giants.

The 24-year-old spent much of his time in Turkey out injured after suffering knee ligament damage in an U21 game for Portugal against Slovakia.

Jorge Mendes, agent and owner of GestiFute was closely involved in the move and also brought in Ricardo Quaresma, Simao Sabrosa, Manuel Fernandes, Hugo Almeida as well as Sidnei during the Yıldırım Demirören era.

Bebe left Old Trafford permanently in 2014 after signing a deal with Benfica but the 24-year-old was recently loaned out to La Liga outfit Cordoba.
