‘Become the next Nicolas Anelka’ – Tottenham striker was lured to Super Lig giants with stories of ex Arsenal star

Super Lig giants convinced Tottenham striker to become the next Nicolas Anelka

Tottenham striker Vincent Janssen joined Fenerbahce on a one-year loan over the summer transfer window.

Turkish sports newspaper Fotomac revealed that the Yellow Canaries lured Janssen to the club by convincing him to become the next Nicolas Anelka.

Fotomac quoted an unnamed Fenerbahce club official as saying: “We explained to him that Anelka was not in the best of form when he joined us but he turned his career round and ended up returning to the Premier League with a transfer to Turkey.

“We told Janssen he can do the same.”

Anelka move to Fenerbahce from Manchester City for two seasons in 2005 for £7 million.

The French striker helped the Yellow Canaries win the Super Lig title before joining Bolton Wanderers for a club record £8 million.

Chelsea snapped Anelka up for £15 million in 2008 where he lifted the Premier League title, two FA Cup trophies and the FA Community Shield.

Janssen meanwhile joined Fenerbahce after failing to impress at Tottenham last season.

The 23-year-old striker has two goals and two assists in all competitions for the Istanbul giants this season.
