Besiktas could sign sign Chelsea midfielder in January says agent

Beşiktaş could sign Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel in January according to football agent Mesrin İzzet.

The agent told Turkish football radio Radyospor that he has a mandate from Mikel’s agent to represent his client in Turkey.

İzzet reported that Mikel had agreed personal terms with the Nigerian international but that Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho vetoed the move.

Mikel could however, be permitted to leave in January in pursuit of first team football in Turkey.

“Mikel could join Beşiktaş in January in-fact it would not be a surprise as he wants to play in Turkey and wants first team football,” İzzet said.

The 28-year-old striker still has another two-years left on his contract but has only made one appearance this season and is unlikely to play regularly for the Blues.

Chelsea signed Mikel from FK Lyn for £14 million in 2006 and the exeperienced midfielder has lifted two Premier League titles, four FA Cup trophies and the Champions League during his time at the reigning champions.

Beşiktaş are currently third in the Turkish Super League and will compete in the Europa League this season.
