Besiktas raise their game against top sides like Liverpool says Demba Ba [divider]
Beşiktaş beat Liverpool on penalties to secure a place in the Europa League Last 16.
Demba Ba underline that the Black Eagles know how to raise their game against quality opposition like Liverpool.
“We are a strong side with quality players, we may not always play at our best but we know how to raise our game against top sides like Liverpool,” Ba told Turkish-football.com reporters after the game.
“We have a lot of young players in the team so this will have been great for their confidence, I am proud of our performance today, we have really performed well in Europe and played some very tough games.”
Ba was a doubt going into the game but got the all clear to start and led the line upfront.
The Senegalese international setup Tolgay Arslan for the goal that levelled the score on aggregate.
Second half substitute Arslan scored the only goal in regulation time to take the game into extra-time.
The powerful striker almost won the game in regulation time when his shot from inside the six yard box hit the cross bar in the last minute of additional time.
The former Chelsea man took the first spot kick in the penalty shoot out and converted.
Ba has scored a total of 22 goals and provided five assists in all competitions this season.
