Calhanoglu awarded Bundesliga Goal of the Week

Bayer Leverkusen star Hakan Çalhanoğlu has been awarded with scoring the Bundesliga goal of the week.

Çalhanoğlu won 64 percent of the votes on the official Bundesliga website poll.

Bayern Munich midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger was second with 16 per cent of the vote for his goal away to SC Freiburg, Freiburg’s Admir Mehmedi came third with 12 per cent) Hamburger SV’s Gojko Kacar was fourth with six per cent and finally Hannover 96 playmaker Lars Stindl came fifth with two per cent.

Çalhanoğlu scored his sixth direct free-kick goal of the season in the 2-0 win over Hoffenheim. The Turkish international opened the scoring with another sublime free-kick effort just before the half-time whistle.

The 21-year-old has been hitting the headlines recently for his set-piece goals. The 21-year-old has scored the highest number of free-kick goals in the top five leagues in Europe – Premier League, Bundesliga, La Liga, Serie A, Ligue 1.

The Turkish international is regarded as being one of the best set-piece specialists in world football and has received rave reviews from Bayern Munich boss Pep Guardiola who said: “Çalhanoğlu is one of the best free-kick takers in the Bundesliga.”
