Campbell Gives Verdict On Latest Everton Transfer Cenk Tosun Following Tottenham Clash

Cenk Tosun became the first player to join Everton from the Turkish Super Lig since Kevin Campbell was transferred from Trabzonspor in March 1999.

Tosun made his debut in the 4-0 defeat against Tottenham at Wembley Stadium on Saturday.

The Turkey international played 62 minutes putting on a performance that drew praise from fans and pundits alike.

Tosun was not exactly spoilt for chances, in-fact delivery was so poor he was not able to get into any clear-cut openings.

The 26-year-old would have had an assist had the referee not – correctly – ruled Wayne Rooney’s first-half goal offside.

The decision was made all the more painful considering Harry Kane scored a goal that should have also been flagged offside.

Campbell expected Tosun to do the business in the Premier League and believes he will be able to cope with the expectations as he’ll be used to pressure from his time at Besiktas.

“The club Tosun has come from, Besiktas, is an enormous club. The Turkish supporters are exceptional but there is a lot of pressure on the players there,” Campbell told the official Everton website.

“He will be able to handle the expectations and demands on him here. I am not at all worried about that.

“I would love for him to do the business and for the Evertonians to take to him.

“That would be two strikers signed from Turkey they have taken to!”

Campbell also expects Tosun to do well in the Premier League and improve Everton’s lacklustre attack.

“It is a great piece of business for Everton to bring in somebody of international quality,” he added.

“Tosun is a good player, a strong player. He is blessed with good technique and knows where the goal is.

“The quicker we can get him settled in the better. He might need a couple of games to adapt but he is a top-quality striker.

“The Turkish league is not easy – it is a really tough league. It is not the Premier League but, believe me, it is a demanding place to play your football.

“You will see glimpses of what he can produce very quickly. Then, as long as he can bed himself in to the Club and the team, we will see the best of him before too long.”
