Charity heaps praise on Mesut Ozil after Arsenal star invites 11-year-old with brain tumour into box

Gillingham based-cancer charity My Shining Star has heaped praise on Mesut Ozil for his charitable act.

Ozil invited brain tumour sufferer Charlie into his private Emirates Stadium box for Arsenal’s clash with Sunderland.

The 11-year-old has been suffering from a brain tumour for the past two years.

Unfortunately Charlie suffered a relapse and will need to undergo further treatment. The youngster was also given access to meet the players.

“Mesut Ozil’s PR manager has been in touch to say that he personally invites Charlie as a guest in his box at the Emirates, at the Arsenal match against Sunderland,” Anita from the My Shining Star charity was quoted as saying by the Mirror.

“He will of course get to spend time with Ozil and the other players and get his dream!!

“Arsenal’s computers crashed today because of the amount of requests for Charlie and they had to have a meeting!”

“The fans, both Arsenal and other clubs have just been fantastic.

“It’s such huge awareness for a charity such as ours too, it will allow us to help other families so I’m so relieved.”

Ozil founded the ‘Özil-Foundation’ in 2015 to support children and young people around the world.

The 28-year-old star has also been a Laureus ambassador and has worked with the foundation on charitable projects including helping Brazilian kids living in poverty after the World Cup.

Ozil has registered 11 goals and 11 assists for Arsenal this season.

Arsenal take on Southampton in the Premier League this week as they look to register back-to-back wins.
