Chelsea & Arsenal set sights on £6m Nigerian forward Henry Onyekuru targeted by Euro giants

Chelsea and Arsenal have joined the race to sign 19-year-old star forward Henry Onyekuru.

According to the Daily Record, the Premier league duo are monitoring the teenage star’s progress at Eupen.

The Daily Record goes onto state that Scottish champions Celtic made an unsuccessful move for Onyekuru in January.

Meanwhile, a source close to Fenerbahce has told Turkish-Football that the Istanbul based club are also interested in signing the Nigerian footballer.

Per-the-source, the Belgium side Eupen are holding out for £6 million for the youngster.

Onyekuru has been in impressive form this season with 12 goals in 26 games for Eupen this season.

The 19-year-old also recently confirmed that he will be leaving the club this summer but did not reveal where to.

“Hmm, I cannot yet answer now,” Onyekuru was quoted as saying by the Daily Record when asked about his future.

“I still have to talk to my representatives and we will make a decision this summer.

Onyekuru did confirm that he has an agreement with Eupen that he will leave over the summer transfer window.

“Sure, I’m going to leave this summer. I have an agreement with the Eupen club.

“I returned to play for them and 100 per cent I will be free to leave in the summer.

“I have no problem with the club. I have done everything to help keep the club in the top division and that goal is achieved.

“What happened in January had nothing to do with the team. It was between me and the management.

“The Eupen fans didn’t understand what was going on. The important thing is that I came back and gave everything for the team.”

Fenerbahce have struggled this season in the Turkish Super Lig and find themselves in forth place with 38 points. The Istanbul giants take on Kayserispor this weekend as they look to return to winning ways.
