Chelsea sent club official to Turkey for £30m Newcastle striker target who scored in Istanbul derby

Besiktas star Cenk Tosun has had no shortage of interest this season.

The striker has been linked with several Premier League sides including Newcastle, Everton and Crystal Palace.

Turkish-Football have previous reported on the Magpies keeping close tabs on the 26-year-old.

Tosun has a new suitor according to Besiktas general secretary Ahmet Urkmezgil.

The Besiktas official revealed that Chelsea sent a scouting team to monitor Tosun during the Istanbul derby.

Urkmezgil said: “Cenk has come so far, he is a great player who has reached the highest level.

“Chelsea sent club officials and a scouting team to watch him during the derby.”

Urkmezgil did however, underlined that the club do not want to sell Tosun in January.

“We don’t want to sell Tosun over the winter break, we want him to see out the rest of the season,” he added.

Tosun ended up scoring the opening goal in the derby clash against Galatasaray.

The Black Eagles ended up winning the clash 3-0.

The star striker has 11 goals including four in the Champions League for Besiktas this season.

Tosun has played a key role in Besiktas winning the league title for the past two seasons.

The Istanbul giants have set a £30 million price tag over the winter break to ward off interested clubs.
