Chelsea urged to make £70m bid for Arsenal star who provided 19 assists last season, says former England international

Chelsea have been urged to sign Arsenal’s star playmaker Mesut Ozil by the former England international and football pundit Stan Collymore.

Collymore has told the Mirror that Chelsea should offload Cesc Fabregas and look to build a side around the Germany international.

“I just don’t see Fabregas as a great No.10 – he’s a Jack of all trades and master of none. He’s not in the same league, for example, as Mesut Ozil, who can do much more in bossing games,” Collymore wrote in his column for the Mirror.

“While I’m sure Ozil won’t be going anywhere, if I was Conte, I’d put in a cheeky £60-£70million bid to see if it got him.

Ozil was not included in the Arsenal squad which was defeated by Liverpool earlier today.

The 27-year-old was given an extended break after reaching the Euro 2016 semi-finals with Germany before being knocked out by the hosts France. Ozil finished last season as having the most assists in the Premier League – 19.

Chelsea take on their London based rivals West Ham United in their opening game of the 2016-17 Premier League season.
