Club official values Newcastle target as being worth €100m, Crystal Palace could have had start striker for £22.5m before deal fell through

Besiktas striker Cenk Tosun scored in the 3-0 Istanbul derby victory over Galatasaray at the Vodafone Park on Saturday.

Turkish-Football reported that Newcastle were among several clubs that send scouts to keep tabs on the Turkish international.

The Magpies have been closely linked with the striker all season.

Besiktas club deputy chairman Deniz Atalay was so impressed with Tosun’s display that he said he now values the player as being worth €100 million.

“If you ask me Cenk is worth €100 million, he has a very bright future,” Atalay said.

“He are starting to reap the fruits from the seeds we sewed.”

Despite the valuation Besiktas officially value Tosun as being worth €22 million but will not consider offers below €34 million in January – as they want to keep hold of the striker over the winter break.

Newcastle could face competition from Crystal Palace who have also been linked with Tosun.

In fact Palace were reported to have struck a €26 million [£22.5m] deal with Besiktas for the striker over the summer according to the Sun.

There was not enough time to complete the details of the deal before the transfer window closed and four days later Palace sacked manager Frank De Boer.

The star forward now has 11 goals and two assists in 19 games for the Black Eagles this season.

Tosun has four goals and two assists in five Champions League games.

The 26-year-old’s form has helped Besiktas become the first Turkish side to book a place in the Last 16 as group leaders and they managed to do so with a game in hand.
