“It’s embarrassing” – Ray Wilkins reveals why he believes Arenal boss Wenger made a huge transfer blunder

Former England international Ray Wilkins has slammed Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger for his transfer dealings.

Both Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez could end up leaving the north London based club for free next summer after failing to pen a new deal.

According to Wilkins, Wenger made a huge mistake by not selling the pair over the summer. The former Chelsea assistant manager went onto state that the decision could potentially cost the club in excess of £120 million.

“I would have sold Ozil in the summer, the same with Sanchez – it’s embarrassing,” Wilkins told sportingbet.

“I find it quite sad that the club have allowed Wenger to take the stance of not selling them, potentially costing the club £120m in fees that they’re now not getting.”

Arsenal could however still strike new deals with the pair and talks with Mesut Ozil are understood to be ongoing.

The Gunners suffered a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Manchester United at the Emirates Stadium last weekend.

Arsene Wenger’s side were also held to a 1-1 draw by Southampton on Sunday leaving them outside of the top-four.

The Gunners take on their London rivals West Ham United in the Premier League on Wednesday night.
