Beşiktaş striker Demba Ba missed the weekend game against Eskişehirspor due to injury but is expected to recover in time for second-leg Europa League tie against Liverpool according to team doctor Ertuğrul Karanlık.

“Demba Ba did not pick up an injury yesterday, unfortunately he played with an injury against Liverpool in the first leg,” Karanlık told the official Beşiktaş website.

“He has a problem in his calf and that is why we rested him against Eskişehirspor, hopefully he will return to training on Wednesday and be ready for the game against Liverpool.”

Liverpool beat Beşiktaş 1-0 at Anfield in the Europa League Round of 32 first-leg.

The Senegalese international would be a huge miss for Beşiktaş. Ba has been one of the main sources of goals for the Black Eagles this season.

The powerful striker has 22 goals in all competitions for Beşiktaş this season. Ba leads the Süper Lig goal scoring charts with 13 goals and broke the Black Eagles record for goals scored by a single player in European competitions in a season.

Cenk Tosun or Mustafa Pektemek would play in Ba’s absence.

The return leg will be played at the Atatürk Olympic stadium on Thursday 26 February.
