Diego Simeone proud of Atletico Madrid despite Real Madrid defeat

Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone stated that he was proud with his sides performance despite losing 1-0 against rivals Real Madrid in the Champions League quarter-final second leg at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium.

“I go away proud of my team. Once more we competed really well in the UEFA Champions League, which is a very difficult competition. I am sure I have a team of men, a team that work hard. At times we can play better or worse, but I am so proud of the players and of being the coach of the type of players who give what they gave today,” Simeone was quoted as saying on the official UEFA website.

The loss was Atleti’s first against Real in their last seven head to head games.

The La Liga champions reached the final of the Champions League last season but lost the title to Real.

Real Madrid booked a place in the semi-finals for the fourth time in five years following the victory.

Turkish international Arda Turan had a night to forget, the experienced winger ended up getting sent off for a second yellow card offence in the second half.
